Portal
Connect your own domain for the property portal and file links, and let buyers sign in with Google under your brand.
On this page
The Portal page connects your own domain to the customer-facing pages Gene App hosts for you, and lets buyers sign in with Google under your brand. Find it at Settings > Portal.
The page appears when at least one of these features is enabled for your account. It has up to three cards:
- Your portal address (when the property portal is on for your account).
- Your own domain, for the public property portal and branded file links.
- Your own Google sign-in (when portal client logins are enabled for your account).
Your portal address#
This is the public link to your portal, and you can rename it.
Every workspace has a buyer portal where clients browse the listings and files you publish. Depending on your account, anyone with the link can browse with no account, or buyers must sign in or create an account before they see anything. The card says which applies, so send the link accordingly.
- Copy gives you the address to send buyers.
- View opens the portal as your team sees it, with no buyer sign-in.
The address is also your workspace's place in Gene App's own links (crm.gene.so/<your-workspace>/...) and in its Gene email address (<your-workspace>@mail.gene.so). It follows your Friendly Business Name (Settings > Business Profile) on its own. Rename it here to pick something else, and your workspace address changes with it. Your pick stays until the Friendly Business Name changes again, and then the address follows the new name.
Whenever the address changes, the old one keeps working:
- Portal and listing links you already sent to buyers still open your portal.
- Gene App links your team bookmarked or shared open the same page under the new address.
- Replies to emails sent before the change still reach your inbox.
No other workspace can take your old address.
Connect your own domain#
Two customer-facing surfaces can run on your domain:
- The public property portal, where your published listings live on a shareable page. Set the domain (or subdomain) it lives on.
- Branded file links, so files the AI shares with leads go out on your domain instead of a generic URL. Set the subdomain they use, so a brochure link reads as files.yourcompany.com.
To connect them:
- Enter just your base domain (yourcompany.com) on the card. Gene App adds the portal and files subdomains for you.
- Follow the DNS instructions shown on the page. Each surface needs one CNAME record at your registrar, both with the same value. You only do this once.
- Wait. The page verifies automatically once the record is live.
NoteDNS changes can take up to 30 minutes to propagate. If verification doesn't flip, re-check that the record's host and target match the page exactly.
Use your own Google sign-in#
Connect your own Google sign-in client so buyers who use "Continue with Google" see your domain on Google's screens instead of "to continue to gene.so". It is free.
ImportantThis needs your verified portal domain first.
The card walks you through the 15-minute Google Cloud setup:
- Create a project.
- Brand the consent screen with your company and domain, then publish it.
- Create a Web application OAuth client.
- Paste in the redirect URI the card shows.
- Paste the client ID and secret back into Gene App. They save on their own, with a Saving... / Saved marker on the card.
Once both are saved, Google sign-in switches to your client right away. The Remove button switches back.
Plain sign-in needs no Google review. Verifying your brand with Google is optional and takes a few days. It upgrades the text on Google's screen from your domain to your company name and logo.
What your team hears about#
What a lead does on the portal reaches the lead's owner: an enquiry on a listing, a new account, interest the portal AI noted, a download, a message to the portal AI, and coming back to the portal. Page views are not alerted; they show on the contact's portal activity. Each teammate picks where these reach them in Settings > Notifications (the "Portal:" rows). A lead with no owner goes to the whole workspace's bell.
Tips#
- DNS changes can take up to 30 minutes to propagate. If verification doesn't flip, re-check that the record's host and target match the page exactly.
- Publishing controls for individual listings live on the property editor, not here. This page only manages the portal's address and domain.
